Private Instruction

Meet Some SXM Yoga Teachers Who Are Available To Come To You.

The person you choose to lead you through your private yoga classes needs to really match your needs and goals.  For example, I am very type-A, but love to have fun. I need a teacher who challenges me, but doesn't take anything too seriously.  I love to laugh as I fall out of the latest asana I am trying to master.  So, for me, Astanga teachers with a little bit of sass are my favorites.  I never miss Dinah's Wednesday classes because they are exactly what I need.

But, as the saying goes, "Different Strokes for Different Folks."  Well, that applies to your yoga practice too!  So ask yourself, "What are my goals?  What do I want to get out of my yoga instruction?"  Maybe its a great workout, maybe its to relax and mediate, maybe its to learn how to do the postures correctly...

Some people are looking for more of a spiritual connection, using the practice to connect with their breaths, calm their minds, and rejuvenate their bodies.  We also have a lot of beginners contact us, to take private lessons to learn the postures so they can join a group class.  For beginners, it may be fun to try different gurus before you settle on the one who is right for you.

One of our teachers just helped a beginner yogi, and after just three lessons, the student woke up without a hip pain she had suffered from for years.  It can really be an amazing thing to have someone focusing on your body, your needs, and at your level.  Below I've listed some really good teachers that I know of on the island.  I am sure there are more, however, these are ladies who I have personally taken classes from.

Megan.

Me.  :)  But, here's a little more on the type of students I am looking for:

Like I said before, I have a lot of energy, so the type of yoga I prefer is Astanga Vinyasa.
This is a very athletic type of yoga.  So, I am looking for someone who wants to challenge  themselves.  For me, Astanga is very  intellectually challenging as well, because it requires you  to  acknowledge your limits while constantly pushing yourself.  It is the  ultimate way to  "get  out of your  head."  I am very open to teaching any level, as long as the person has some level  of fitness, and  has  done some sports, exercise, fitness routine in their past.   This practice is not for wimps.
I am located in Beacon Hill / Simpson Bay, St. Maarten (Dutch Side).

  Petra.

Petra  received her  certification at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Thailand.  Petra is deeply  familiar  with how the  body and mind are connected in the healing process. She teaches classic  Hatha Yoga with slow,  meditative peace. Her Yoga  Practice is designed to balance the physical  body, which then has a direct  impact on one’s mind and emotions. Her classes  stretch and strengthen your body, calms your mind, while you  are revitalized by meditative relaxation.

With practice, you will achieve more flexibility, a healthier body and a greater sense of well-being and inner  peace. Petra’s  mission is to share the harmonizing practice of Yoga with her students, and grow together in a  Yoga Life.

Petra is located in Beacon Hill / Simpson Bay, St. Maarten.

Dinah.

Dinah has been teaching on island for over 20 years.  I personally take her classes every Wednesday in Grand Case.  She has studied all types of yoga, including Astanga.  Dinah's immense  experience allows her to work with everyone from beginners to advanced yogis.  She also has a massage practice, so you could  have her come by for a yoga class, and have her stay for a few massages.  Create a spa day with Dinah in your villa or on your  yacht.  Sounds great, doesn't it?

Dinah is located in Grand Case, St. Martin, French West Indies.

   Bianca.

Bianca specializes in Kripalu yoga, and also integrates great breathing exercises traditionally associated with Kundalini yoga.      Kripalu yoga is made up of traditional hatha yoga postures, and is geared at all levels.  The "breath of fire"  and other breathing techniques help to clear emotional blocks throughout the body.  If you are new to yoga, and are looking for  a way to get started, this practice may be right for you. The breath work is also good for anyone with respiratory issues, and  older yogis.  Bianca also  does massage.

Bianca is located in the Simpson Bay area.
